Arts plasticity in the social inclusion process: The continuous dialogue in the transformation of materials - Maracatu
The workshop for handicraft arts which is my research objective is carried through with a group of children and adults that participate in the project developed by the “Centro de Referência em Educacao Especial no Rio de Janeiro” – Instituto Helena Antipoff (Centro Integrado de Atenção a Pessoa com Deficiência .Mestre Candeia – CIAD) which is associated with the Secretary of Education to integrate it as a form of social inclusion for people with or without deficiency. The workshop objective is to encourage contact with the diverse handicraft materials using several techniques such as: painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. These techniques allow numerous transformations and possibilities for the group’s work thus establishing a continuous dialogue in the transformation of the handicraft material in the individual experience and in the group integration in this “inclusion process”. This process looks to benefit the student offering them the opportunity of individual growth as a participant citizen in the culture. Our workshop will also allow the artist-student to become aware of the relations with the handicraft art environment experience and most of all conscious of his self-esteem. Also with the objective of exhibiting the artistic objects produced by the students in art exhibition and congresses, as was already theoretically and visually presented in the 2006 INSEA Congress in Portugal, Viseu. The methodological proposition of this workshop promotes a sensibilization process that valorizes the notion of community, which is target of the attention of the art educators nowadays. According to Ana Mae Barbosa (Arte/Educação Contemporânea: Consonâncias. São Paulo: Cortez, 2005 p. 232) the art study produced locally has great potential to bring conscious to people about the richness, contradictions and immanent meanings of their own culture. Through a visual representation, these people will get distant from the world to, only then, begin to understand it. Understanding this matter would be an act of achieving consciousness because it has the capacity of attributing new significations to the family phenomenon. The Plastic Art workshop has been developing the concept of culture identity and the social interaction process in rescue to the artistic manifestations in Brazil. In 2005 and 2006 a research was developed about a popular Brazilian festivity – the Rural Maracatu also known as Baque Solto, which was created in the state of Pernambuco in Nazaré da Mata. With the research on Maracatu, Plastic Art elements started to mix with elements of the Popular History of Maracatu and the students started to build, through this process, new significations and realities, also integrating their local and general culture. The understanding of the Plastic Arts basic concepts, such as biodimesionality (drawing and painting), volume, tridimensionality (dolls) and color, was also developed. The highlight of the project was the exposition in which the dolls and characters were placed as if they were in a Rural Maracatu or Baque Solto popular festivity, stimulating the public’s imagination and transporting them to the magical and rich Brazilian folkloric traditions.
