Movies in art education
In my paper Iím going to present a project of an out of school educational programs, that are dealing with movies and new media. This project has been running in Pragueís Oko cinema since June 2OO6 and Iíve been working on it for more than a year. In my paper I would like to describe the opening program Romeo and Juliet (F. Zeffirelli 1968 and B. Luhrmann 1996) for 12-14 years old children, which is planned to be followed by series of connected programs gradually covering all important aspects of the moving image. Program Romeo and Juliet introduces some problems of film art for secondary school children, who havenít experienced any type of film education or media education in general so far. This program presents, defines and explains the specificity and basic concepts of film art and its relation to other kinds of art via comparison of two different film adaptations of one classical theme (W. Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet). It analysis some of the main means of expression and compares film art with other kinds of art. It wants to achieve active viewing (in contrary to traditional passive viewing) and enables direct processing of the experience via particular tasks and questions documenting the experience in the working sheets. In my paper I would like to share my experiences with this specific way of art education, quite unique in Czech art education. I will also mention other upcoming programs, which are in preparation in these days.
