The Potential of Open Source as Resource for Visual Arts and Multimedia Education
The present study it intends to reflect about the potential of Open Source Software to develop new approaches to teaching and learning in area of visual arts and multimedia education, in particular for educational collaborative networks. With this study we intent to systematize the open source alternatives to the traditional art/design software, such us Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator and his potential as tool for new methodologies centred in network learning environments. In particularly we focus the study in GNU’s Image Manipulation Programs and his use by Portuguese teachers and art students as image manipulation resource. Same issues are related with transparency of use, the art-work quality, constrains of use in professional environments and the potential for artistic creation.
