A comparison of the project method to conventional methods in visual arts educationThe objective of this study was to compare the differences between the subject project method and the currently-applied methods of visual arts education on the secondary education level. The outcomes of the project method implemented on the 6th- and 7th-class pupils of the Gazi College of Gazi University have been assessed with respect to the applicability of project method on the course of visual arts education. The subject matter of the project comprised the creation and exhibition of portraits of artists, the graduates from the Visual Arts Education Department of Gazi Educational Faculty of Gazi University, affording visual arts educators and artists in Turkey for eighty years. As a result of providing the visual arts education by means of the project method, it has been observed that distinct renditions were arrived at by distinct perspectives and techniques. It has been established that the creative and explorative aspects of children were affected in a positive manner.
