The development of art education in Nigerian schools
This paper discusses the development of Art education in Nigeria with reference to the traditional process. It takes a retrospective look into the influence of the Missionaries on art education in Nigeria; it also examines the roles of eminent personalities behind the growth of art education and the eventual integration of art education into the formal school system in the country. Furthermore, the paper delves into the objectives of Art education at primary and post primary school levels and the position of art in Nigeria at present. The paper suggests different ways by which art education could be strengthened in Nigeria.
